I will admit, this scene had and still has me a bit confused. What did it mean hallucinating Sookie and draining her until she is dead? Could it mean he is killing the last of his humanity? This hallucination was before he drank Salome’s blood, so it was all him. I am still confused about this one.
At this point, he hadn’t had any more blood than any one else. You can see him make his decision in the 2nd gif. He decides what he wants, and to take that path, he kills what stands in his way. Sookie does represent the little that’s left of his humanity.
I’m not so sure Salome’s blood is tainted. It could be that Bill surrendered (to use Eric’s word) and decided to fully succumb to this new belief. It’s too simple to blame whatever was going on with Bill in this scene on Salome’s blood. It takes all of the onus of his fate off of his shoulders and places it on some mystical substance. The initial taste of Lilith’s blood may have weakened his resolve and created his crisis of faith; however, Bill came to the crossroads all on his own and he chose which road to go down all on his own.
I agree — this is Bill making a choice. But, I do think TB means to give it a whiff of ambiguity as to whether or not he would make this choice without the influence of Salome and whatever blood is in the vial of doom. For me, the weight of evidence is clearly on the side of saying that even without the influence, Bill would choose this because what he cares about is power, acceptance and being on the winning team. He doesn’t have strong enough principles or an uncompromising enough moral compass to resist.
I think free will and agency is always a big topic on True Blood, and I do think the waters are just as muddy as always where Bill is concerned, and that’s on purpose. He can’t be an unconflicted villain. I think he feels how wrong he is. I also think that he has quite literally made his bed, and now he’ll have to lie in it. It was his choice, and there’s no going back.
This. Especially the bold.
Again this season is about choices. Eric has made his and so has Bill.
I don’t want anyone including Bill saying the “blood” made me do it. Eric has pointed it out to Bill on several occasions this season. Bill made his choice.
